While homelessness and waiting lists for social housing continue to increase, the government mainly finances the construction of residential areas, luxury residential towers and meager container homes. Too little effort is being made on the affordable and permanent housing that is needed to solve the housing crisis. Project developers and landowners often engage in land speculation and deliberately postpone the construction of homes for their profits when land prices are too low. In this way, a complex of project developers, land and property owners and slum landlords benefit from the scarcity.

That system is unjust and unsustainable. The government must take control to put the interests of tenants and home seekers first and not the profits of the real estate industry. Towards democratic, fair and accessible public housing!
