Living vision demo
Thursday March 14, 8:00 PM
Rotterdam City Hall, Coolsingel 40
It is incomprehensible that so much unaffordable new construction is still being built, while thousands of people are homeless and thousands more households live in too expensive, insecure or temporary housing. To tackle the acute housing crisis, affordable new construction and expansion of the social rental sector are needed.
It is not without reason that five United Nations Special Rapporteurs warned in 2021 about the disastrous consequences of Rotterdam's housing policy. Last December one of the Special Rapporteurs came to Rotterdam to hear and see for myself how the municipality and the government have organized housing policy. This Special Rapporteur criticizes housing policy and, following his visit to various cities presented a laundry list of criticisms in its final report.
Housing revolt demands radically fair housing policy
Woonopstand is following up with this action the previous action on November 18, 2023 and on the residential protests that will take place in 2021-22 were held throughout the Netherlands. The Housing Protest occupied the office in October 2023 of the Association of Institutional Investors in Real Estate (IVBN). Woonopstand and BPW will continue to take action until our demands are met!
- Prioritize ending homelessness and preventing precarious and overpriced housing.
- Invest in widely accessible public housing: build 100% socially and affordable and stop the demolition, sale and liberalization of social housing.
- Dispossessed slumlords: democratize decision-making about housing and support cooperative housing. Neighborhoods and homes must be owned by the people who live there.
- Stop the gentrification policy.
- Adopt the criticisms of the Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing.
Houses for people, not for profit!
