Student housing protest Nijmegen! – March 9, 4:00 PM

With a national shortage of 26,500 student homes and the forecast that this number will double in the next 8 years, there is an extreme housing crisis for students in the Netherlands. There is a huge housing shortage in Nijmegen in particular: For example, the number of students on the waiting list at SSH& has doubled in one year to 6,000, while the student housing association's current plans will only increase the supply by about a thousand rooms until 2030.

In addition to the huge shortage, the rents of existing rooms are becoming increasingly unaffordable for the average student. A large part of the problem lies in the fact that about half of Nijmegen's students rent in an unregulated private sector where slum landlords can do their own thing. International students, who are virtually excluded from this private sector due to discrimination, are also attracted to Radboud and HAN only to be made structurally homeless through SSH&'s 'short-stay' contracts. We demand the abolition of these temporary contracts, the expansion of social housing, the provision of emergency shelter and an approach to slum landlords!

So come to Kelfkensbos on March 9 at 4:00 PM to watch the AKKU student housing protest to make your voice heard and to force the municipality, the educational institutions and SSH& to take action!
